FORMAT / SCHEDULE / QUESTION PAPERS OF JEE (Main/Adv.)

IIT-Adv.
The examination consists of two papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2) of three hour duration each held generally in the last week of May. Both the papers are compulsory. Each question paper will consist of three separate sections, viz., Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The question papers will consist of objective type (multiple choice and numerical answer type) questions designed to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of candidates.Negative marks will be awarded for incorrect answers to some of the questions. The candidates must carefully read and adhere to the detailed instructions given in the question paper. The question paper will be in either English or Hindi.
ARCHITECTURE APTITUDE TEST FOR B. ARCH. PROGRAM
B. Arch. program is available at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee only. Candidates desirous of joining the B. Arch. (Architecture) program will have to PASS in the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT). Only those candidates who have qualified in JEE (Advanced) are eligible to appear in AAT.
IIT-Main
JEE (Main) have two papers, Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) and Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning). Each paper will be of 3 hours, normally held on first week of April. Candidates may take Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.), or Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.), or both as per the course(s) they are seeking admission to.

PREPARATORY COURSES
The vacant seats reserved for SC, ST and PwD candidates will be allotted to the candidates of respective categories for admission to a preparatory course of 1-year duration on the basis of relaxed admission criteria. All the IITs will run preparatory courses of one year duration for SC, ST and PwD candidates intended to prepare them to pursue the academic program (for current session) to which they have been allocated. At the end of this course,candidates are declared as ‘pass’ or ‘fail’. On successful completion of the course, the candidates will be offered direct admission in July Next Session (for the next year) to the already allotted undergraduate course. Candidates admitted to the preparatory course are also eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced)-Next year subject to fulfilling other eligibility criteria.
RANK & TIE-BREAK Policy
If the aggregate mark scored by two or more candidates are the same, then the following tie-break policy will be used for awarding ranks:
(A) for IIT-Adv.
Higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Mathematics. If this does not break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Physics. If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.
A candidate who qualifies in more than one category will be considered in all the categories to which he / she belongs for the purpose of ranking.
There will be no waiting list for ranking. Only candidates who score the minimum prescribed marks in each subject and in aggregate will be included in the rank list. The minimum prescribed mark varies with the category as shown in the following table.

Candidate obtaining higher marks in Maths will be given better rank. Then, Candidate obtaining higher marks in Phy will be given better rank. Then, Candidate having higher absolute value of the ratio of positive marks and negative marks will be given better rank. If the resolution is not possible after these criteria, candidates will be given the same rank.
Rank list for admission to B.Arch. / B. Planning (in institutions other than IITs)
